Jikonka is a brand that connects rich cultural traditions of living through the experience of clothing, food, and housing.

It started in 1998 in Seki-juku, a beautiful post town in Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture, which still retains its traditional townscape. Jikonka has galleries, workshops, and accommodation facilities in Setagaya, Tokyo, and Seki-juku, Mie Prefecture.

Jikonka's Clothing
Jikonka is a brand that creates fabric products, such as clothing, from natural materials, with a focus on traditional indigo dyeing. What does the word "fukuyaku" (taking medicine) suggest, and what does "clothing" signify when considered with food and housing? Clothing that directly touches our skin not only protects our lives from heat and cold, but also provides comfort through its material, design, and functionality. These experiences, I believe, have a significant impact not only on fashion but also on our hearts.

Jikonka's Food
Jikonka is also a brand of "tea" born from the rich climate of Mie Prefecture. Mie Prefecture is one of Japan's leading tea-producing regions and historically was once renowned as a major producer of black tea. In the mountainous areas of Kameyama City, precious black tea trees planted at that time still quietly thrive. Among them are rare trees that trace the history of black tea, including varieties rooted in Taiwanese native mountain tea and Assam varieties that brought Japanese black tea to the world's attention. We carefully preserve these varieties and manage them meticulously through natural cultivation, learning from experts in China and Taiwan. The production of "fermented teas" such as white tea and black tea is an extremely rare endeavor in Japan and a challenge to unlock new possibilities for Ise tea. We don't just make tea; we propose "rich times" with tea. This includes the production of original tea utensils and the design of spaces for enjoying tea. This is based on our experience of integrating Japanese contemporary craftsmanship with Taiwanese tea culture since 2010, and now expanding our activities to China. Through exchanges such as tea ceremonies and exhibitions, we connect tea culture across borders to the future.

Jikonka values "circulation," selecting antiques and ceramics from a unique perspective or producing original tea utensils. Tools for living spend time with us. Things made with love by human hands, and the time spent carefully using them. These nurture our five senses. We select items that make this moment, this instant, deep and rich, and we aim to pass on their value to the next generation.

Jikonka's Meaning
Jikonka is written in Kanji as 而今禾. "Jikon" (而今) means "this very moment," "right now." "Ka" (禾) is a general term for grains, signifying essential sustenance for life, something precious. The name "Jikonka" embodies the thought, "How do we live this present moment?" This very moment is the present that continues from the past, and it is also the irreplaceable future yet to come.
